We have had a wonderful week at the Y Northern Territory, with the arrival of eight Early Childhood Educators from Papua New Guinea.
The Educators will be working at Y’s Early Learning centres in Katherine and Alice Springs/Mparntwe, as part of the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme pilot.
It has been a big week of learning, connection and exploring the Top End. Highlights included the Welcome Event at CDU, lunch at the Coolspot, a Church service, BBQ dinner, spending time with the Y team in Head Office, and site visits to the Y’s Rosebery Early Learning and Gray Early Learning, and Kentish Early Learning in Moulden.
Following another big week of visits, education, and exploring Darwin/Garamilla next week, the Educators will join the teams at Little Mangoes Early Learning in Katherine and Grevillea Early Learning and Sadadeen Early Learning in Alice Springs/Mparntwe.
The Y Northern Territory CEO Emma Bunting said the Y is proud to be participating in the pilot and welcoming everyone to the Northern Territory and our Early Learning services.
“We are excited about the cross-cultural learning opportunities that the PALM scheme presents,” she said.
“Celebrating diversity is really important in Early Learning as it strengthens children’s social and emotional development and cultural appreciation of others.”
The PALM scheme pilot addresses critical ongoing shortages in staffing in these regions and is just one part of our diversified workforce recruitment strategy to ensure sustainability of our centres.
“Welcoming the new Educators to our Early Learning service ensures our teams can provide consistent and reliable care that supports children and families in regional communities,” Emma said.
We look forward to supporting our newest team members to feel settled and welcome in their new roles.
